Rain puddled on the wraparound porch at Lounsbury House all day, and the old white house looked better for it. Upstairs, the bridesmaids lounged in matching green hoodies and heart-shaped sunglasses while stylists worked through a long table of brushes and curling irons. Andrew's suit hung from the mantel under a carved clock. Maggie sat by a rain-streaked window with her red curls pinned back and a pearl comb set in.

The first look happened on the covered porch, with Andrew turning around in a green tie that matched every bridesmaid. They walked the length of the porch together, then stepped onto the upper balcony between the tall columns. A golden retriever flopped down at their feet for a formal portrait and would not move, which made it the best one. Her veil caught the wet air off the railing and hung there like smoke.

Maggie came down the curved staircase with the veil spilling over the banister, and the ceremony filled the front parlor under a chandelier. Guests stood close on every side. The first dance moved across black and white checkerboard floors, followed later by a kiss in front of a donut wall and a cake with a small black dog on top. By the end of the night, one groomsman was airborne over the dance floor.
