Southport Harbor was the kind of still, deep blue that late summer does best, with sailboats moored in neat rows off the marsh. Indoors, Isabelle's bridesmaids sat shoulder to shoulder on a white sofa in matching blue pajamas. Her gown hung by a sunny stair landing. Bryce wore a pale blue suit and a polka dot bow tie, and one of his groomsmen gave that tie a final tug before they headed out.
The ceremony happened on the porch of the old brick clubhouse, white columns on either side, a garland over the door, and guests filling rows of white chairs on the lawn. Bridesmaids in slate blue satin held bouquets of dahlias, sunflowers, and marigold. When it was over, the two of them walked down the steps into a crowd of phones and cheering.
Then came the part guests will talk about. A club launch hung with a hand-painted Just Married sign carried Isabelle and Bryce out for a slow lap of the harbor, both of them waving from the stern. Back on the lawn, they fired the yacht club's small signal cannon together. The reception moved into a sailcloth tent set with blue and white floral linens, a band with a full horn section kept the floor busy, and Bryce had to wipe his eyes with a napkin during the toasts.
