Everything about this one was bright. Bridesmaids in matching floral robes posed in front of a wall of pink and gold balloons, and a makeup artist worked under a ring light by the window. One of them buttoned into a blush pink tuxedo with a black bow tie, then struck a pose over a blue felt pool table. The other stepped into a fitted white gown while sheets of glass looked out over downtown Orlando.
The ceremony room at The Balcony is almost all windows, polished concrete and gold chairs, with a copper hexagon arch dressed in yellow and red flowers at the front. A violinist played as guests found their seats. Erin and Sheretha exchanged rings in front of a row of bridesmaids in blush and rose, and then walked back up the aisle hand in hand, grinning at everyone.
Up on the roof, the clouds had broken and the wind took the cathedral veil straight out sideways. The wedding party threw their bouquets in the air against the skyline. As the night went on the tuxedo changed to emerald green, the gown to a short lace dress, and the dance floor filled up. I took them out onto the balcony one last time, the office towers lit behind them, for a quiet kiss in black and white.
