Dana & Michael

Rain was falling hard enough to bounce off the hood of a vintage burgundy sedan, white ribbons tied to its grille. Dana stepped out anyway, laughing, a friend in a wine velvet jacket holding a clear dome umbrella over her. Her dress was all layered lace and handkerchief hem, and her earrings were green stone drops that matched the eucalyptus pins laid out earlier beside her sandals. Michael, in a classic black tux, spent the last quiet minutes fixing his bow tie at a window.

Away from the guests, the two of them met alone under the covered end of the pavilion. Fog had erased the horizon completely, so the only things beyond the railing were wet sand and a lifeguard chair.
