October 22 started with dusty blue everything. The invitation was printed in gold on slate blue card, the ring box was velvet and ivory, and Kim's bridesmaids lounged in matching blue satin pajamas across a cream sofa. Kim's gown hung from a tall silvered mirror in the bridal suite, where she stretched out on a chaise before a bridesmaid did up the last of her buttons.
The first look happened on the club's curving staircase, Fabiano waiting at the rail with his back turned until Kim reached him and threw her bouquet arm in the air. The ceremony stayed inside, in a round room with windows on the water and a white draped arch. The priest laughed right along with them at the altar, and by the kiss the whole wedding party was grinning.
Outside, the wind off Long Island Sound was strong enough to send Kim's cathedral veil straight out sideways in front of the white rotunda. Trees along the drive had turned orange and rust. Inside again, there was a shrimp display beneath an ice sculpture of a leaping fish. Their dog could not be there, so a cutout of a curly goldendoodle sat by the head table, and Fabiano hoisted the pup's face overhead at one point like a trophy.
